I enrolled in the Python & Data Foundations programme after months of trying to learn on my own with YouTube videos. The difference was immediately obvious — the structure meant I did not keep circling back to the same confused points. The mentor clinic was genuinely useful, not just a scheduled check-in.

The ML Project Track gave me two projects that I could actually put in a portfolio. I have done a couple of Coursera courses before and they always ended with quizzes, not with something I could show my manager. Mentor code reviews were thorough — sometimes uncomfortably so, which I mean as a compliment. A few sessions ran long, which is worth mentioning, though recordings were always posted.

I was nervous about spending the money, honestly. But the structure and the small group made it work in a way larger courses had not. Having the same mentor throughout — rather than whoever happens to be on duty — made a real difference. I completed the Foundations track and signed up for ML within a week of finishing.

I enrolled in the Neural Networks track after completing ML here. The capstone process was challenging in a way I appreciated — the mentor pushed back on my initial design choices in a constructive way that made the final project much stronger. The alumni circle has been a quiet but useful resource since I graduated in March.

Coming in with no coding background whatsoever, I was prepared to struggle. The first two weeks were difficult — not because the material was unclear, but because thinking like a programmer takes time to get used to. The mentor clinic in week three was where things clicked. Genuinely worth the six weeks.

The ML project where we built a demand forecasting model using local retail data was the most practical learning exercise I have done in years. I work in logistics and could see directly how the approach applied to my day job. The second project confirmed what I had picked up in the first. Suraya's code reviews were detailed and specific.

ML Track

Challenge

Was spending hours each week manually cleaning and summarising sales data in Excel. Wanted to learn Python but had no idea where to start, and previous self-study attempts had not lasted more than two weeks.

Programme

Completed the Foundations track to build confidence, then moved directly into the ML Project Track. The continuity of mentor contact between levels made the transition smoother than expected.

Outcome

Replaced a two-hour weekly manual report with a Python script that runs in four minutes. The second ML project — a churn prediction model — was adopted by her team as a working tool.

Career transition supported by deep learning credentials

Neural Networks

Challenge

Had completed the ML track and wanted to move toward an AI engineering role. Lacked a deep learning project to point to in interviews and was unsure whether a self-directed approach would hold together.

Programme

Enrolled in Neural Networks in Depth. Designed his capstone around an image classification problem drawn from his operations background — a defect detection model for a manufacturing context.

Outcome

Received a job offer at a KL-based tech company three months after completing the programme. Credited the capstone project and the code review feedback as key factors in conversations with interviewers.
